What is the ONT/ONU equipment of the XPON network?
The ONT can generally be regarded as the same thing as the ONU.The XPON network uses a single strand of Optical Fiber to carry network signals and solves the problem of the last mile of the network. The ONU converts the optical signal into an electrical signal during the access test,so that the terminal equipment using the network cable can use it. Early XPON used optical fiber to reach the building,ONU equipment was placed in the corridor, and multiple network cables were sent to different households. With the increase in bandwidth requirements,ONU equipment is now generally placed directly in the households,one fiber at a time. Such small home ONUs often integrate the functions of some home routers and set-top boxes.Small ONUs in such homes are called ONTs,which are commonly known as optical modems.
